Hiking Boots MAG
Rough and tough, dust and rust,
Smooth little grooves that only move –
They’ve touched the grass and felt the water:
Strong and dependent, which cease to falter.
I will never see the perspective they have
Because their view on the world is different from mine.
Each day they encounter a new adventure
That breaks them down, yet they never surrender.
They’ve trekked through muggy swamps,
Broken down precious branches,
Eaten up the soil along many trails,
And endured treacherous thistles in order to protect me.
I admire them for their strength and selflessness,
Two qualities I wish to pursue for myself.
Thank you, hiking boots, for the lessons you’ve taught;
Continue to thrive and help me survive.

Inspired by this past summer when I explored and hiked two mountains in Colorado.
