"Why do you believe in monsters but not God?" - Conner Green, Williamsport, OH

Up on a hill,

Or down on the ground.

All places I can go
That are all around.

In my house,
Or in my backyard.
All places that
Won’t take me too far.

Where I want to go,
I never can find.
All places I seek
In a matter of time.

I can’t go left
If I go right.
I can’t do both
Before I’m out of sight.

I could get out,
If only time stood still.
I dream to run far
From the house on the hill.

Maybe New York,
The city that never sleeps.
But never the Stanley Hotel,
That places gives me the creeps.

I might take a plane,
All the way to Italy.
I might have a chance
To view the world differently.

I want nothing more
Than to leave this place.
To see the worlds colors,
To learn how to embrace.

But that could never happen,
I’m stuck here forever.
I’ll never see Alaska
And it’s freezing cold-weather.

If able to relive my life
I’d say yes in a minute.
But that’s not the rules,
The rules say I have a time limit.

I’m sad to say
That my limit is almost done.
It’s my fault I didn’t travel
When my life had just begun.

The author's comments:

This piece is inspired by Dr. Seuss's "Oh, The Places You'll Go" except this piece has a twist, obviously with reading the title. It's about a person who wished they got to live their life before it was too late.
