Furry Friend
I know you were not always going to be a battery,
You could not always be recharged.
At one point you would leave me,
I just didn't know it wouldn't be very far.
With the new year not even in the time span,
We had hope medicine could spare you.
Although we all already knew,
That it was the last Christmas we would spend with you.
The ongoing blindness and arthritis,
You no longer acted like my furry friend.
You even lost most of your fur,
So I just considered you as my friend.
One's only hope is that you would go peacefully.
Each night wondering if it was your last,
Until the worst happened.
You feel and looked as if you were attacked.
Now we all wished that you were taken sooner,
Avoid the pain we saw on your face.
The choice had then become clear,
It was time to make this all come to an end.
We took it out of faith's hands,
and did what was best for him.
Until the last day he seemed like the walking dead,
But on the last day he was once again my battery.
He gave me the memory of him,
That reminded me he will forever be my favorite companion.
