Knees and Nails
In hindsight it probably wasn't a very good idea
to go up my grandmas old wooden stairs
on my hands and knees
Definitely not my brightest moment
There were at least thirteen kids bouncing around like kangaroos
My cousin and I were upstairs, eyes glued to tv screen
In that moment I knew I waited forever to use the bathroom
I had to go like a racehorse.
Not wanting to go my body was telling me otherwise
Quickly I darted for the stairs but my eyes caught the tv reflection
Focusing was not one of my strong points
Now going to the bathroom was the furthest thing from my mind
My cousin screeched my name telling me to come back
But I still had to use the bathroom
I went up the stairs on my hands and knees
Big mistake.
My scream pierced the silence as electric streams shot through my body - I went numb
Appearing instantaneously my mom's voice was shaky
Asking if I was okay she yelled for my dad
My Dad hoisted me onto his shoulder
Into the car, we were off to the hospital
Tears flooded my eyes
Suddenly I became fully aware that a nail tore through my skin
My knee gushing with blood we finally arrived at the hospital
After being ushered inside the ER I was greeted by a male doctor
He decided stitches was the best way to go
I was in no position to object
especially since when I attempted only a faint muffled sound escaped my mouth
Anticipating the worst feeling in the world
Surprisingly quick but also painful
The doctor talking to my parents
While a nurse took the IV out of my arm
Take it from me, do not go up
broken wooden stairs
on your hands and knees
You will regret it!
