"Wear your wrist guards"
She told me to wear wrist guards, how foolish was that?
She said I had to wear that big hard hat.
Disobeying my mother felt good in my mind
Until the wheels beneath my feet lead me to fall on my behind
The sidewalk was bumpy, a stone caught my wheel
My arms went in circles, and I started to reel
Scrape, Scrape. Crack, Crack.
My arms went behind me, I heard a big snap.
Laying as flat as a pancake on our sidewalk
Eyes swelling and throat clenched, I could barely talk
A friend got my mother, I sat dreading she’d be mad
But then she came racing asking, “Are you hurt bad?”
She was swift, faster than thought possible
The next thing I knew we were there at the hospital.
“Yep it’s broken,” one plump doctor said.
I just looked at my mother, my stomach churning in the bed.
“These things happen and I’m glad you're okay,
But from now on you’d better obey”
My cast was a radiant green like an apple, ya know
When the light was off there was a bright glow.
Wearing wrist guards to play never did any harm
That way you won’t be alarmed
If you go to the doctor and have someone say
You really should’ve worn wrist guards that day.
