Where I Come From
I come from loud nights and warm hugs
Screeching cars, blustering bangs, and a mother? love
Bold, angry words being exchanged in the dark
Too loud, jobs lost, change
I come from the cold unremembered
People surround me, speaking in their nonsense tongue
I do not understand the alien statues before me
Too much cold, too much change
I come from winding mountains and a flushed haze
Warm again with memories of saltwater, old bay, and cherry blossoms
Yet so cold, the bold, angry voices turning into words
Too much vexation, again we change
I come from anxiety-stricken shyness
Separated. New. Lonely. Cold.
Cold. Why am I cold again?
Warm smiles approach as I accept them to change my own.
So ,much change and yet,
I am still me.
