Do you remember what it was like?
Dodging the waves
Oblivious to those who got swept away
Not caring because we were dry
Indifferent to the problems of others
Until the water was real
And then our wounds were real
The saltwater licking at our cuts
Do you remember when we realized?
We didn't have to break the surface
We were strong
We could adapt
We could breath underwater

This poem is about high school and junior high. It was a little weird at first and for a few years I had been slipping away. And then there was all this stuff that was expected from all these people who didn't really care that you had OTHER stuff to do for OTHER people. It's sort of like breathing undrewater.
