Senior Year: A Villanelle
Don’t say high school’s been the worst thing ever,
What about the lasting friendships you’ve made?
Dig down, there are good times to remember.
Though there were nights that lasted forever,
Think of how much you’ve grown, not of the grades,
Don’t say high school’s been the worst thing ever.
Sneaking out, water guns in hand, so clever,
“Ahh!” She’s out! Oh the crazy games we played,
Dig down, there are good times to remember.
Forget sleeping on Stewart field? Never.
Hundreds of students, the stories we’d trade,
Don’t say high school’s been the worst thing ever.
Dropping in to catch the game whenever,
“Red Devils win again!” Pride always stayed.
Dig down, there are good times to remember.
Here you are, off to college. However,
Now you realize the memories won't fade.
Don’t say high school’s been the worst thing ever,
Dig down, there are good times to remember.

Senior year is filled with many bittersweet moments. Each year since the beginning of high school I've been dying to graduate, but now that I'm finally here, I wish time would slow down. I took so many little things, people, and moments for granted, and some I'll never get a chance to relive. I was inspired by this realization to write this villanelle to remind others like me that the time we spent here wasn't as bad as we made it seem.
