Can't We Get Along?

When little girls like little boys
No one asks them why, they just continue to let them play with their toys
But when a little girl said she liked little girls too
Her mom and dad asked her how she knew
The little girl didn't have to think at all
She said," momma daddy, why do you two love each other? I'm just wondering that's all
The momma and daddy looked at their girl and said "we just knew"
The little girl then smiled and said "there you go, it's the same for me, I just knew."
The parents even though what their daughter had said, they loved her through the years
Were there to catch all her tears
The not so little girl anymore
Had a friend that with all her heart she did adore
Her friend was crying one day
The girl walked up and knew just what to say
Her friend began to explain
She was going through rejection and emotional pain
She too like the girl had told her parents she liked girls too
But instead they didn't just love her and ask how she knew
They would scream and yell
How much there's no way to tell
So her friend hid who she was through most of school
To keep away from anything cruel
Depression and thoughts of suicide filled her mind
Because having to hide who she was made happiness almost impossible to find
Her friend came up to her one day
Said she had something to say
Since January she's been with someone
Her heart that person so easily won
Although she had to hide this from her mom and dad
She was no longer as sad
This is not the way it should be
Because of fear of parents, having to hide who you're meant to be
With the girl along side her friend
She went to come clean with her parents no matter the end result, her feelings till the end she'd defend
Her parents screamed and yelled told her to get out of their life
The friend turned and went but she didn't let the loss of them stop because that very day she went to her soulmate and made her her wife
The wedding day soon came
She looked out and was overwhelmed with guilt and shame
Her mom or dad were no where to be found
But she didn't let that bring her to the ground
She looked into her fiancés eyes and saw the pride
That they had because she was their bride
From that day on
The fact that her parents were forever gone
Because of who she loves is the same sex
Will no longer on her have an emotional effect
If we could all just get along
And just make everyone feel like they belong
Then this, my story, would no longer be true
Treat us with respect and you'll get it back so let's all get along and see what it could do
