brushed with harsh bristles

with an attempt to tame
by her mother
because curly hair was not the same

but after a wash
they would again reign
twisting and twirling onto themselves
rejuvenating her mane

her father has short straight hair
and never seemed to care for her hair
maybe because he never saw how
her strands resembled flames, and how
the fire burns bright within her

her mother has long hair,
but with some sort of wave to it;
then again, that was like most women in her family-
never seeming to have the same light
like her

their hair is like the submissive waves of an ocean
controlled by the Moon’s force, pulls and pushes,
but the Sun has the Earth
in her gravitational grasp

her sister had curly hair
ringlets far more defined than her’s
but after years of damage
another star was burned out,
and it became the limp waves she knows too well

However, another star that shines brighter everyday
is fueled by the knowledge she feeds it
