Today I’ll be accepting
When a hurtful joke hurls its way at me,
Filled with hatred and malice, I’ll laugh it away.
To everything unfair and unjust I’ll hold my tears,
Stab the darkness with numbness.
I’ll refuse to be vulnerable
And let myself give in.
Today I’ll be accepting
And acknowledge the insults and defeats.
To the friends and foes, it’s bittersweet
Full of betrayal, jealousy, and hurt;
I’ll keep it in the back of my mind,
Knowing that someday it’ll disappear.
No to the ignoring of text messages, with its obnoxious shouts,
No to the unaccepting feelings their deception,
No to the mind with its warnings and cautions
No to the perfect world that will never be.
No to myself anymore,
Who used to be genuine and free.
From now on I’ll be what everyone wants me to be.
I’ll say goodbye to me,
Hopefully I’ll come back,
To the person I used to feel safe as,
To the person I want to be.
But for now, I’ll do what I’m told,
And be just another victim of the world.
