"Arrow Aimed at Freedom"
“ The Arrow Aimed for Freedom”
If I could
I would gladly forget
Bondage
Slavery
I remained abroad ten months, which was much longer than I had anticipate.
Never saw prejudice against color
I entirely forgot it, until the time came for us to return to America
I am ready to go back to the plantation
I was nothing but a slave
I remember the first time I was punished
Reminded
Flogged
Whipped
Property
I died
where laughter is not mirth ; nor thought the mind
Nor words a languafe; nor e’en men mankind
Where cries reply to curses, shrieks to blows
And each is tortured in his separate hell
Time passed on
My story ends with freedom
Free from the power of a
Slave holder
