The fresh donut sitting in Dunkin
Covered delicately in strawberry gloss and sprinkles
Told myself I didn’t need it, wasn’t worth it but
I couldn’t help myself

The cute boy sitting across the room; friends to his left and right
Texted him my feelings about him, praising his beauty
Yes, I knew he didn’t quite feel the same, well because I was me but
I couldn’t help myself

But is not being able to help myself a childish excuse?
An excuse for being weak, having no control over myself
Because I could’ve lived without the donut
And I could've lived without sneaking out, I could've

Just like I could've lived without confessing my temporary love
Of looks and style, my love of the company
But it's the same excuse for every situation
An excuse for having no self control, breaking the walls I built to protect myself

I couldn't help myself.
