The Bear With the Purple Bow
A simple act of kindness, that you cherished with your heart. A once loved bear I gave to you, and you loved it from the start.
You hugged it tight and told me, "kid, I'll never let it go". Since I had forgotten, but you kept your promise so.
Each night you made it comfy, with a blanket for its bed. It slept all night beside you, a tiny pillow for its head.
And every time you'd visit, he came packed in your bag. Yet he was now showcasing, his own sacred name tag.
'Benjamin Bear I've named him', is what you said to me. That's what I have chosen, and that's all it shall ever be.
Although I didn't quite believe it, when you said he still lived on. I gave it to you six years ago, and you'd kept him till you'd gone.
When your room was being emptied, to put your flat on up for show. Like a present sat upon the bed, dressed with purple bow.
My bear lay wrapped in blankets, atop the unmade bed. I reached across so gently, and cradled its soft head.
'Now it is my turn' I think, 'to look after him as you did'. His bow will stay around his neck, cause deep down I'm still that kid.'

I wrote this shortly after the death of my Great Aunt, who truly treasured anything that was given to her. The bear is now the only thing I have left of her, and I am now treasuring it as much as she did. I hope that this poem inspires you, and encourages you to cherish every little thing in life - it might not seem too important to you now, but it could be the most important thing in the world very soon.
