I lay down on my bed
Attach my phone to the speaker and turn it on
I hit play

Suddenly, I am on the freeway
Driving through Miami
Surrounded by neon lights and palm trees
Flooring it in my DMC DeLorean
Wearing a silk suit with the sleeves pushed up
All while wearing a good pair of aviators
Next track

I’m sprinting out the side doors My mask is filled to the brink with sweat
The sirens are closing in
The rest of my crew is behind me
We see the van that is unlocked
We hop in and peel out of the scene
I take my mask off to breathe again
Next track

Isolated from everyone
I’m riding a horse across the Mojave
Both of us are dying of dehydration
Vultures begin to circle us as the day progresses
waiting for their next great feast
Death is slowly approaching
I finally see a road sign
California: ten miles
I have to keep pushing
Everything fades to black

I hit pause as I hear my name being called by my father
Supper must be ready

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem because I wanted to sum up the multiple genres of music that I listen to. Some songs can be nice and low key, while others may be a bit more intense. I wanted to show the reader that depending on the song that I am listening to, I can imagine myself in different scenarios.
