Controlling Chaos
It’s become that time of year again
When all the trees loose their leaves
The rich autumn colors slowly begin to fill the sky
Red, yellow, brown, orange leaves
Soon they will rushing fall to the earth
As the wind take the leaves
The piles they build quickly
So the people will try to control the leaves
These people don’t like the chaos that is being created
They don’t believe green grass should be covered by leaves
So they work aimlessly year after year
Trying to control the wild leaves
Though it will only happen again next fall
When the trees try to let the earth take back the leaves

It was fall at the time and in my journal I started to write a paragraph about why I didn’t understand why people racked up leaves. Leaves create great soil and really they do no harm except kill grass. Americans now are tied to the idea of the perfect lawn, and the fertilizers that we use really do have a large effect our or local ponds, lakes, and streams. So I decided to write a poem about it. Comparing people’s impulsive and useless actions to try to control the leaves even though nature is just going to try to mess it up next fall.
