You show yourself in our weakest moments.
When all is lost and we are most vulnerable.
The snake slithers by, hissing in our ears, deciding our fate.
The battered, broken, and damned; anxiously awaiting your decision.
You show yourself in our greatest moments.
When the world is at our fingertips, and the future is ours to command.
The songbird comes by, chiming with praise, singing like a siren.
As the victors touch glory for the first time.
Oh how you come!
Twisting and tempting, innocent and kind.
Just as much the child as the devil.
Always the gambler, rolling the dice with greedy eyes.
Why, do you tempt us so?
What pawns are we to you?
Playing your game, mere pieces on the board.
Our fates long since decided by something we do not understand.
And what price do you pay?
What of this dangerous game?
Stringing us along like puppets, tempting us with glory.
And we fall. Oh, do we fall!
Because despite what you throw at us, however you mistreat us
We will always fall for the chance that one day we may be better.
For humanity’s greatest siren song of all, the one we must believe in
Is that we will make you great again.
