When She Was
When she was 5
She told herself
That she would rule
The universe someday
When she was 8
In between hackneyed lines
Everything she couldn’t do
Was all they could say
When she was 12
She started to fear
In the sound
That it was just delusion
When she was 15
She stopped
Believing was nothing
It was just an illusion
When she was 23
She told herself
Just a few more days
Still, she’s slowly suffocating
Now she doesn’t think much
She doesn’t do much
And underneath it all
There’s no breathing

Trigger Warning : Depression.
Mentions of suicide.
When She Was is a poem about depression and growing up. Along with how prejudiced and horrendously beautiful the world is.
Okay, I'm done being a horrible person now.
