Thunder crackled
Rain poured down from the clouds
There was a calming splish splash
With every step I walked
The sun was playing a game of hide and seek behind the clouds

The delay had ended
It seemed like weeks had passed
However it was only a couple of hours
Worms were slithering around on the wet grass
A strong aroma aroused and was in the air
I could not put my finger on what it was

I laced up each cleat carefully
Strapped on my helmet ready to embark on the journey of the next game
With each step I took water from the ground splashed up
It grasped my ankle
And with each pass I made a sense of excitement became more apparent
The lacrosse fields were buzzing with excitement

Finally it was game time
With the blow of the whistle and the clamp of a head
The game had commenced

The first three quarters went by as quick as the wind
My socks, dripping from the storm, rubbed up against my feet
Creating a friction

All of a sudden my feet burned
Every step felt like the stab of a needle
I kept going I had too
Giving up was not an option
The game was too close
We couldn’t lose

I wanted to give up
The clock was ticking down ever so slowly
Finally the horn went off
Relief was instantaneous

The game ended with the horn
A loud long noise
But a noise of relief
We had won

I pulled of my soaking wet socks
And under them revealed what had been causing the burning
Four blisters

I got my feet bandaged up like a mummy
Bandage after Bandage
Tape after Tape

I had was determined
One game left
I was so close to the end of the tournament
But the pain made it seem as if it was so far

I put on a new pair of shocks slowly
I never imagined such a simple act
Could be so painful
I strapped on my helmet
Laced up the cleats
And warmed up for the game
Pass by pass
With every step I took the pain lingered

The whistle sounded
I caught the first pass
I faked up and down
And I so carefully put the ball between the goalie’s legs
Five Hole
After the first goal the rest just poured in
