Who I Am
I am from Father,
Southern sweetness,
An athletic scholar.
I am from Mother,
Irish with wisdom and luck,
An intelligent spirit.
I am from inherited gifts.
I am from Michigan
(Unpredictability).
I am from blessed resources,
Success in automobiles.
I am from loss,
But a refusal to give up.
I am from protest,
Fighting for what I believe in.
I am from determination.
I am from hair-ripping curlers
And “beauty is pain.”
I am from early summer mornings,
The blue lake, and wriggling worms.
I am from creativity,
Bringing stuffed animals and barbies to life.
I am from fun-filled play,
Catching frogs and original dancing.
I am from an old soul,
Reborn.
I am from God,
A true child under Him.
I am from purpose and importance
In serving Him.
I am from gazing at my savior,
And crying in realization.
I am from mercy,
Forgiveness and salvation.
I am from an earned promise of eternal life.
I am from love.
