the call
The Carlisle family had experienced severe loss in the past couple days. They were a family of three, Michael, his wife Jessica and their daughter Amanda. Michael suffered from losing his father a few weeks ago and has been drinking a lot as well as acting extremely different sense. His wife first discovered he was developing a drinking problem when she called his work a few days after the loss of his father to see if he was working late and when he picked up the phone he was slurring his words. The problem seemed to get worse as time progressed. On Halloween night, Amanda just got back from a party at her friend’s house and was upstairs sorting out candy. Later that night right after Michael came home from work, Amanda heard her parents in a heated argument in the kitchen.
‘’You are going to end up hurting yourself if you continue this, Michael.’’
‘’I don’t have a problem Jessica, I am coping with everything fine, you should leave this alone.’’
‘’Leave this alone? What kind of influence do you think you’re setting for our daughter right now?’’
‘’Jessica, stop.’’ Michael said, but as the words came out of his mouth, Jessica noticed he was giggling a little.
‘’Did you drink before you came home again?’’
‘’ I am done being accused of this! I am leaving!’’ Michael turned away from Jessica, grabbed his keys and stormed out of the house.
‘’He can’t drive like that, he could kill someone!’’ screamed Amanda to her mother.
‘’Grab your coat, I’m calling the police and were going to find him and get him help.’’
Jessica and Amanda rode around the neighborhood looking for him but they couldn’t find him, all they saw was some teenagers still outside trick or treating.
They then proceeded to drive around town looking for his car, but they couldn’t find any signs of him anywhere. After an hour and a half of searching, Jessica received a phone call.
‘’Ma’am this is Officer Clark, We found your husband’s car in the lake over on 2nd street.’’ There was a pause in his voice. ‘’We found his body in the car too ma’am. He didn’t have a pulse when we found him but they were not any signs of suffering, we are still running tests.’’
Jessica immediately hung up the phone and broke down. Amanda saw the look of brokenness appear over her mother’s face and got the message of what the officer said. There were moments of silence in the car.
‘’Amanda I am going to drop you off home and I will go to the police station.’’
As Amanda entered her house, she noticed there was a voicemail flashing on the machine that came in around 5 minutes ago, she assumed it was the police. As she walked over and pressed play, her heart stopped. The voice on the machine was a little sinister but had a serious tone.
‘’I am coming home.’’ It was her dad.
