Our Own Hero

I am a thinker of sorts.
I don’t like to run so I never played sports.
A thinker, a reader, a writer am I,
So invested in school that I think I might cry
From not enough learning and so much to do,
But ne’er fear world, I’ll do it, it’s true.

I sing every day in my choir at school.
Singing’s my hobby, I use it a tool
To calm my mind and excite my soul.
It makes me feel happy and brings me a-whole.
I’ve sung since the innocent age of four,
Now here at eighteen my voice it will soar.

I want to make the world a better place to live,
For not only myself but to others I’ll give
A sense of hope, life, and happiness too,
A life worth living, not a constant issue.
I’ll teach all I meet as much as I can,
And make their lives better than when I began.

One day I’ll look up at the starry night sky,
And remember the days when I used to ask why
We on this earth have a reason to be.
I’ll know it by then that it not be me,
But rather to help and to love and to grow
And to make ourselves our own hero.
