Life of a Soldier

No place to call home, short lived stays.
Shanghai, Paris, even Hong Kong.
Reality is, no roots are put down.
I crave belonging.
Deprived kids at home,
my son was two when I left.
It is chaos overseas.
I crave reassurance.
I miss my wife,
Who’s beauty strikes me
and is a single mother to my kids.
I crave romance.
