Becoming Who I Am
I saw the ocean for the first time today.
The sight was amazing.
The color, so blue it was beyond belief.
The sound of my heart rushing,
Pumping blood so I don't lose myself along the way.
For the first time in my life I felt unlike myself.
No longer did I have to think of what I was doing,
Conscience of my surroundings.
The ocean, though, was not a real ocean,
For when I took one step back from this view,
All I know is that, I was looking at you.
You are the one I wish I could see every day.
But for now,
Just knowing that you know who I am,
and like Me for Me,
Is all I will ever need.
I want to thank you for showing me not who
I am not, but who I can be.
Too, bad though, I took another step back
With one second left,
This was only a dream.
Are you out there?
Are you looking for me?
I know who you are, but do you really see?
See who I am, who I possibly could be?
What does it matter,
Who I am not?
I just wish that through those ocean blue eyes of yours,
You could see me for who I will one day become.
