A Life Fulfilled
Is it a blessing or a curse
to set your expectations high?
Will you prosper, live, and flourish
or just hope until you die?
Everyone dreams of something,
some devoted to pursue.
But some just hide in shadows
scared of what their dreams could do.
Faith in oneself is a powerful thing
But the joy it brings may be brief.
A lone, young boy can’t support himself
on nothing but belief.
The other side sees a girl afraid
of what her hope could do.
She lives a life of humble fear
but finds her dreams come true.
One who purely follows his heart
avoiding trouble and strife.
Another who shatters her own dreams, but lives
Who had the better life?
Is this world a mere chance to prove oneself
or is this life a gift?
Is it better to live wishing you’d die
or to die wishing you’d lived?

I wrote this poem after reading Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations" and Charlotte Brontë's "Jane Eyre." It was inspired by the main characters' actions and choices.
