After the Fires
Someday, after the tides burn, we will glow
And stand alone upon the ancient hill
The world will see us then and know.
The days before that time will speak of woe;
Yet, conquering them at last, triumphant still,
Someday, after the tides burn, we will glow.
Around will lie the world fallen so low,
But our touch will make gold from its foul swill.
The world will see us then and know.
Although today we may seem dumb or slow,
Our hands not being quick with bow and quill,
Someday, after the tides burn, we will glow.
And at the end of time we'll rise and go,
Up the mountain, burning with cold thrill.
The world will see us then and know.
When all the world has burned we'll still have seeds to sow;
New sprouts can rise from ashes through our will.
Someday, after the tides burn, we will glow.
The world will see us then and know.
