Flee to be Free
I’m trying to think, on thinking and thought
But when I think it seems, all I’ve done is fought
I’d like to be free, not in company
But it seems to be me, I cannot be free
I work and I work, it seems that I’m caught
In a life where everything can only be bought
When life’s cost is so high, we pay a large fee
When all we want is to be free
To laugh and to giggle at innocent things
To calmly answer when a phone rings
To not be told that we are wrong
For being whom we’ve been for what seems so long
So we try to be us and we try not to care
But stand against them, no not we dare
So what does one do when it seems the fights lost?
Does she run from the crowd, does he pay the cost?
Do we do what we’re told? Do they do as he says?
Does he keep all his thoughts buried deep in his head?
I say that I, in act to be free
Flee from the cage that they’ve built up for me.
For once and for all, I will do as I call
I’ll free myself, and we’ll free them all.
