Suppressing/Hope
This is how to act the part of a dancer; This is how to look like you own the stage, accentuating your condensed space with extended and meaningful arms, since you are contorted by your insecurity and instability; This is the back-up plan of faking it until you make it; You have many skills to ace before you are put in front of an audience - let alone perform on the stage; Looking at the ground for hope think: This is really discouraging, there is a lot of work ahead; This is how to stretch, so that you will become flexible soon; This is how to be light on your feet, with no shadow; This is how to be seen through your window; It is created by the two people in the line in front of you; If you are so unconfident you will not follow through and, sadly, be in the back of the formation; This is first position; Open your arms and legs to be a little wider, to be in second position; This is how to form third position; To be in fourth position, bend your arm and move your leg forward; This is fifth position; This is how to do sixth position; This is how to work-out and condition for the strength aspect of dance; This is how to do a proper push-up, and crunch; This is how to do a plank for 2 minutes straight and keep track of 200 jumping jacks; Get up from your feet and have second thoughts of dance: Is this what I really want to do?; Feel as though you have just died as you got up and swallowed a massive pill, repressing your agony; Look down at your feet as you try to fend off the poignant tears; Oh, my ankle is killing me; Feel that? - That is when you known you have done your best, tried your hardest; The pain should ache throughout your whole body, not your ankle; prepare for more skilled moves that may cause more pain; This is how to do a pirouette; If you are adept enough, this is how to do a fanning tuck jump; These are really high expectations, it’ll be a rude awakening when she finds out my true, limited potential; Getting these skills will take time and strength, testing your patience and anger; This is how to hold a temper; Anger and frustration doesn’t help anyone, only create more tension; This is how to soak in the music and understand it, in order to perform with it; Although you are still learning, you should let the rhythm lead you: 5, 6, 7 and, 8; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8; That is how to keep count of music; This is how to act like you know what you are doing, until you understand the dance completely; Be prepared; For being on time is to be late, and only being early will suffice; Know that dance is your new schedule, keeping you forever busy; Your passion comes first; Be positive and confident, if not anything else; Be patient, success doesn’t happen overnight; To be a dancer, you must let the music take you; Let it flow through your body; Let it inspire you, not engulf the lines and strokes that you have made; Look at dancing like a canvas, your moves are the wet paint, your body is the paintbrush; The finish product must have long and lengthy curves, no jagged and coarsely spread edges; If you dance like a stick you won't represent your message well; The counts should only be your guidelines, but new patterns, unimaginable soul-songs may appear; Yes, a connection of your soul to the beats of the music; You must hold your body to positivity, perfection; Hold your head high, shoulders broad; Never should you droop your head of confidence or allow someone else to judge such beauty; But I am not beautiful; Stand up straight, poised; You must look at yourself in the mirror, this is all you have; Glance down at your shoes and then study your reflection, your gleaming eyes - from the tears that want to swell as you continue to look; You are here to strictly dance; Do not speak with your friends, this is clearly not a hang out; Straighten your arched back, and hold up your own neck; You are not waiting for the bus stop; Never forget choreography; You must always hold yourself accountable; Try your hardest and you will achieve your highest, but you are bound for uncertainty with your low esteem; This is how to show emotion through the song of the dance; Don't just smile, you must be the character to convey the dance; Emotion is all you have besides your body and lines; Repetition will help to get a dance move; Obey all rules given to you, the slightest problem may ruin your career with a company who would like you to dance professionally in their name; But I could never make it that far; You mean to tell me that after all, you are going to be the one to droop your head?; After all the talent you have, that I gave to you, you want to stop now; You have chugged too far on these tracks to come to a jolting halt; I have faith in you, but that is not what will carry yourself on these distant, bleary tracks ahead of you; You feel a gentle hand touch your chin and yank your head up.

This piece is an accentuated version of my dancing career, when I started to dance in the more professional dance sector of the studio I went to. After dropping all of these feeling of unconfidence, I was able to be my true self. I hope others can relate and know that not everything happens overnight; it will happen bigger and better if you hold your head high!
