The Price of War
Turn the gun, unfortunate soul!
Go on and kill! Fulfill your role!
You will feel guilt, but never fret.
The battle’s horizon is offset.
For one’s sanity is war’s toll.
Your morals are thrown down a hole.
Your purity, it burns like coal.
A sound is heard! You feel a threat!
Turn the gun.
Your gun lowers, achieved your goal.
A corpse spread on the grassy knoll.
On your brow forms a drop of sweat.
You turn the body and regret.
It was your best friend on patrol.
Turn the gun.
