October
By the first of October,
the sky began to eclipse
the air became crisp and chilly
and the raw leaves fell briskly to the ground
I hadn't seen frost since last winter.
that familiar season was coming soon.
the trees swayed with the gentle winds
and the crunchy leaves were stomped on forcefully
and I remember
jumping into the leaf piles
climbing the trees
and hide and seek around the yard
one day we tried to hide in the neighbor's small cramped shed
and you said
that you were sad I had to leave
and what
I remember best is that I said
no matter where I was,
you’d be with me.
