L’oiseau de la Royauté
Hidden in a hollow
until your birth,
protected like a pearl
by Mother Earth
Once you hatch,
you’re ready to leave the nest.
Bestowed upon your pate,
a glittering crest.
Your bodacious brilliance,
evident and on display.
You desire to be desired
in every way.
Your feathers unfurl:
obsidian, emerald, sapphire blue,
mesmerizing observers
with every dazzling hue.
Your appearance unchallenged
by every other bird.
Your calls so unique
when they are heard.
They say beauty is skin deep
and fades oh so fast,
but for you, majestic peacock,
for you, it lasts.
