Reign of the Playground Queen
Take me back to small, clammy fists
Grasping Crayolas and ponytail wisps
Back when days went by in effortless bliss
Back when the playground queen reigned.
Take me away from sleepless nights
Grotesque rumors and ripped ballet tights
The bills keep coming, the future isn’t bright
All’s left is empty stomachs and shame.
Please heal my wounds and lift the pain
Erase the worries, glue the pieces again
Pick up the shards where my heart was slain
Teach me to love just the same.
When I wake from this bad dream, will you untangle my hair?
And sing songs of springtime, and promise you cared?
Will you remember the friendship we shared?
Back when the playground queen reigned.
