As I stand in the shower
hot water pours over me,
washing away layers of
labels and prejudices,
things others think of me
and the limits I put on
myself.

It scalds.

I am stripped
of everything,
of all the lies and assumptions,
like wax melting from a candle
or peels unwound from an onion.
All that's left is
me.

I become one small soul
in a vast humanity.
