"If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there" - George Harrison

A girl named Alice lay under a tree
When she saw a White Rabbit and had to flee.
From the tree she ran away
Asking and begging for the rabbit to stay.
Alice followed the rabbit to a hole,
But she tripped and feel and started to roll.

She tumbled down a tunnel until she came to a hall
Where she ate a cake that made her grow tall.
There was also a potion that made her so small.
As she kept changing, she started to bawl.
With all her crying, she made a pool.
The Alice finally regained her cool.

She met a mouse, who was kind and sweet,
He helped her get back on her feet.
After they said their goodbyes,
Alice realized she had to fly.

She found a door with a garden behind it,
And figured out she couldn’t get by it.
She found the key and opened the latch,
And was surprised to see a bright green patch.

As she walked through the garden, The White Rabbit begged her pardon.
She agreed to grant his favor
Then found a mushroom she would savor.
On top of the mushroom lay a caterpillar.
He said it was his and that it would fill her.

Alice kept walking, and met the Duchess and the Cook.
The Duchess had a baby which she shook and shook.
A Cheshire Cat sat on a ledge,
Smiling a smile that put Alice on edge.

He guided her to a tea party that was mad,
The members there made Alice a tad sad.
Then Alice went to play croquet,
With the Red Queen that she heard about all day.

Soon Alice began to understand
That she didn't know how to escape this Wonderland.

Then they were summoned to a trial
Of the Knave of Hearts who was in denial,
Having been accused of stealing the tarts
From the wicked Queen of Hearts.

After a terrible fight at the trial arose,
Alice woke up, under the tree, from her doze.
Her sister was with her there,
Petting Alice's hair.
Then Alice ran off and away,
Her sister left wondering what happened that day.

The author's comments:
This poem is a fun and interesting way to understand the different sections of plot in the story 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. The exposition is described in the first three lines, and the initial incident follows in the next three lines. The rising action is described in the following six stanzas. The eighth stanza shows the conflict. In the ninth stanza, the climax is described. Finally, the falling action is shown in the first three lines of the last stanza, and the resolution finishes off the poem. I wrote this poem for a middle school assignment, but after reading now, I believe the flow and rhyme makes it fun to read while you are subconsciously learning about the aspects of plot.
