"Butts."

I.
the earth abideth forever(we
are battered,but not lost)the
earth abideth forever(we do
not)the earth abideth forever

II.
you search for golden birds within
the stale voids of feigned laughter
and bodies of fluid strangers(why
do you imagine golden birds?)

we are the dreamers(reluctant war
riors)we are the dreamers(of night
mares)(seeking refuge in rivers of
champagne)we are the dreamers

IV.
the world has gone mad today
yet the sun shall rise anyway

V.
answerest them only with spring (we
are them;we serve to destroy)answe
rest them only with spring(and we with
winter)answerest them only with spring

VI.
in the first dancer,i see love;
in the second dancer,i see sex;
in the third dancer,i see death;
(in all three dancers, i see you)

VII.
we were very much in love(we wanted to
think we love was any sort of distraction)
we were very much in love(isn’t it pretty
to think so?)we were very much in love

VIII.
they are watching their whole world fall
apart, and all they can do is stare blankly

IX.
she is dying piece-meal (we allow it to happen
;offer no sympathy)she is dying piece-meal(we
are dead already)(she may be rotting, but we
have been long rotten)she is dying piece-meal

X.
you have things to hold, little girl;like
big diamonds(and perhaps the shabby
gift of disillusion)so turn up your coat
collar,little girl,the night’s full of chill

XI.
a man and a woman and a blackbird
may be one
but a man and a woman and a war
are none

XII.
how pleasant then to be insane
in the crowded streets of spain

XIII.
the glass is not half-full,nor
is the glass half-empty(for
we drained the glass in our
drunken thirst)and all we
can do now is

load

and

pull

wave

and

jump

slash

and

hang

Adieu!

The author's comments:
The artists of the Lost Generation most definitely inspired the entirety of this poem.

Cheers to them, and cheers to madness!
