Red Cliffs

A small wooden welcoming center greets my eyes.
Large red cliffs glittered with sparse pale green shrubbery.
Great birds of prey perpetually weave their way around the blood red mountains.
Wispy cirrus clouds strike the light blue sky.

The bright sun illuminates the cliffs with a hazy red glow.
Dark shadows casted from the large hills provide a small shield from the merciless light.
Eyes squinting, my hand raises to protect me from the blinding light.

Screeches of hawks echoes in the canyons.
Soft waves of wind make pines shudder.
Thick leather boots grind with the worn crimson pebbles.

How can people live their lives without seeing something as beautiful as this?
Was it named after the great biblical city?

Calmness absorbs me.
Never felt exuberance embraces me.
Zions National Park consumes me with reverence for the beauty of god’s creation.

Creation. Creation. Creation.
