A Rainy Day's Heartbreak
Cars flash by past me on the highway,
I’m speeding dangerously on this rainy day.
Raindrops tap at my window anxiously,
Tears drip down my face swiftly.
It could have happened any other day,
Why’d it have to end this way?
The pain eats away at my insides like a savage dog,
The highway in front of me falls under a blanket of fog.
Up exit 18,
Just another heartbroken teen.
Wiping the tears away with my sleeve,
He took my heart like a diamond thief.
I grip the steering wheel a little harder,
I know I am stronger than her.
I won’t fall into my mother’s ways,
I won’t leave my loved ones in a matter of days.
The scars on my wrists are starting to fade,
I put the car in park under some shade.
One foot after the other,
I wish for my mother.
The park around me is engulfed in sadness,
No more kids’ faces filled with happiness.
The rain has washed away the chalk on the sidewalks,
As well as my will to talk.
I sit alone on the wet swing,
I wish to sit here until the first blossom of Spring.
The rust makes the swing creak,
I have never felt so weak.
Hours pass by fast,
And I become a thing of the past.
