She’s been on this broken road one too many times
She feels a filth in her bones, washes her hands till it’s gone
She told herself she was done with these self-crimes
But there she goes again and it’s almost dawn

Her hands are beginning to shake
Bitterness is all she tastes and she can’t remember the last thing she ate
No one knows though, she smiles in crowds and refuses to break
She looks like skin and bones but thinks she needs to lose weight

She does it for the boy in school, she thinks its fate
Little does she know there’s only one thing on his mind
When he’s gone this won’t help her unstable mental state
They skip class and she is falling behind

The author's comments:
In todays society many people are insecure about their bodies, and their image. Women do not need to look like models to be considered pretty, or beautiful. I believe that this poem reveals a very important message to both genders everywhere. Society is ugly and brainwashes us to think we need to look a certain way, dress a certain way, do our hair a certain way, wear our make up a certain way, and be a certain height and weight to be considered "pretty" but that is not true. This poem reveals what is happening to people everywhere because of societies unrealistic expectations.
