Who am I, I asked one day
Am I the mailman saying hey
When I come in stormy weather
Keeping your letters dry as ever

Do you see me walking ‘long
My cap secured tightly like nothings wrong
Do you care to wave your hand
Or is it just something you never planned

But what if I came up to you
Delivering a letter about your money dues
Would you snarl and look away
Cause you forgot for good things you gotta pay

And when you get your other letters
Thinking they’ll be so much better
Do you think of me, a mailmen
Who you couldn’t even lend a pen

Who am I, I asked you twice
Am I the wind you seek advice
The one that blows through your hair
As your car speeds without a care

Do you ever hear me now and then
When there is a storm again
When I’m howling in your city
As if I broke out with a pity

But what if I were a big tornado
Making your town a splat tomato
Would you really like me then
Cause I would kill thousands of men

But finally when laying on your grass
Thankfully done with the day at last
Do you notice my gentle breeze
Blowing through the many trees

Who am I, I ask three times
Am I a streetlight in a line
The one that glows through the night
Making sure you see alright

Do you notice my metal holders
Shiny black and chrome-like silver
Do you run your hands along its lines
Or do you just think about what’s on your mind

But what if your tongue was stuck to me
It being cold, and you not able to flee
Do you ever wonder if I were real
How your slimy tongue would feel

And finally when the morning comes
My light goes out and night is done
But then what really is my use
A pole to tie so your dog isn’t loose

Who am I, I ask one last time
Am I the friend who was so kind
The one that you used to always call
Asking if I could come play ball

Do you ever think of me
When you are drinking your favorite tea
Do you remember all the laughs
When the teacher yelled math

But what if I had never gone
Had never taken the plane at dawn
You’d know I would’ve never crashed
And were out of your life with one last breath

And finally when you visited me
At my gravestone in Door County
Would you just pay your respects
Or fall down and think of your regrets

So today I asked you who am I
I gave suggestions every time
But in the end we truly knew
You never really had a clue

You were too filled up about yourself
When you would exceed great wealth
Instead of thinking of other things
Like the mailmen and what he brings

I hope people will understand to appreciate the little things in life, and I that not everything lasts forever.
