Behind the curtains
When you hear about robberies, do you wonder who committed the crime? Or do you feel sorry for the poor victim? But do you ever wonder about the people behind the scenes spending the days trying to find the convict? I feel that the people behind the curtain are always neglected, like a family less child on Christmas. But isn’t them who do most of the work?
I have been researching crime scene investigators for an eighth grade culminating project. I’ve learn that CSI agents don’t get enough credit. If you were to watch a crime TV show you may be grossed out by the gruesome scenes. But imagine actually being there, smelling the stench of death, avoiding the bloodstained floors. It takes courage and determination and dedication to face these kinds of things every day. To an outsider, it seems impossible to live through this and still remain human.
It’s really incredible how the CSI agents have learned to cope. In my research I found that a few use light humor, while others remain emotionally distant. But they must find some way that works for them or they will become “burned out”. That means they don’t express any feelings.
Family time is demolished if you decide to take up this profession. You don’t know when you’ll be called in to work. It could be when your kids are unwrapping their Christmas presents, or when you’re at the dentist office. Sadly, crimes can’t be put on hold so CSI agents have to make sacrifices in order to do their job.
This research has shown me to look behind the scenes. There is always a shadow playing an important part. You can think of any job, and I’ll bet you there is someone working quietly in the background. I think it’s important to recognize them. I will now always think of the background players. Because they are just as important. So please, stop staring at the speaker on the stage, get up and discover what lies behind the curtain.
