If only I could shelter
from the pain,
the longing I experienced
at such a young age.
If only I could hide you
from all that will lie to you.
If only I could guide you
through the rocky terrain.
If only I could shelter you
from the guaranteed pain.
If I held your heart
in the palm of my hand,
and wrapped it in iron.
I don't want you to know
what a broken heart feels like.
If only I could tell you
before it's too late
that nothing last forever,
so it's best to wait.
And to never hate,
because that grudge won't fade.
If only I could shelter you
from the pain.
