Hawks

Under the altar,
the stars shining above.
You thought his love was falling
in the form of doves,
But instead of an overflow of
red roses, yours turned to black,
and the birds were only hawks,
ready
to strike from up above.

With your words,
committing after “i do”,
you gave me a sense of new dignity
only cause he made me bleed with his words formed
by hatred. .
and i have always known
that he never loved me,
He only controlled me
with those hawks
soaring above me

Words of hate,
to make me late
to learn how to love,
cause he killed my spirit
with those black hawks above...
I’m breaking away from your boundaries
I am nothing but free
I have been released
A new found spirit
Even a stronger sense of dignity

Very dark but illuminating. If I did not know that a young person wrote this, I could easily assume that it is a discussion about two people. Knowing there is a young writer, I must assume that references are to family. The metaphors are powerful and the sentiment very clear.
