Broken Smiles
You see her everyday at school
But do you really?
You see her clothes, her friends,
her looks
But do you see her?
No.
To you she glows
The person everyone knows.
Flawless.
And you envy her
because while you walk alone feeling unknown
you don't realize
that you have been tricked
and what you predict
isn't really true
but then it clicked
She is not who you thought she was
Behind her laughter
is a girl who's trapped
her childhood kidnapped
just like that.
Taken by a man she called father
who couldn't be bothered
so she carried the heavy load that
he wouldn't bear
and the scars that she wears
were designed by his fire
but he swears that he cares
Liar.
Her happiness is stolen
and the thief waits at home
He reigns supreme
and although she screams
his druken smile gleams as he
continues to drink from his bottle
the one who was supposed to be her role model
And it hurts.
The reason she wears long-sleeved shirts
the sweater that everyone complimented her on
Hid her scars
but they couldn't see that far
no one could.
When the man that was supposed to make her feel safe
is the cause of her pain
and it drives her insane
but yet she manages to maintain
Her smile.
Her broken smile.
But what she doesn't realize is that her smiles
are lies
hiding her swollen eyes
carrying her hurt all the way to the grave
where she laid
and died
feeling empty inside
with a smile on her face.
