&quot; What is the point of being alive if you don&#039;t at least try to do something remarkable?&quot; <br /> - John Green

They shatter my eardrums
They pierce my soul
They come back to haunt me
They devour me whole

I try to escape
But I just can’t hide
There’s not a place I can go
There’s nowhere to find

I wonder why I’m silent
That reason, I can’t know
Words have not been scary
And won’t be ‘til yours go

I wonder if you hear them
Hear those words you say
I wonder how to stop them
And finally make you pay

I wonder why they pierce me
I wonder if you see
I wonder if you even care
What your words have done to me

Being a person who loves to write, I'm constantly getting inspiration from the world around me. I wrote this particular poem after recognizing first-hand the negative power that someone else's words can have on a person.
