The Ride of Life
It never did occur to me until now
How short this life we're given is
Until I was the one saying the vows
And was suddenly only his
See we stand in line so long
To ride the coolest rides
That we never see that all along
It's our love that always provides
Mama's drinking in her bedroom
And Daddy's always gone
My friends smell like their smoke fume
But I must still press on
Some rides are crazy (usually with my friends)
We scream and laugh until we're sick
But even though every ride eventually ends
I know it was, in the end, the right one to pick
The lonely house can be a little rough
And feeling alone is never fun
But I know that it has made me tough
For trials and tribulations are never done
This ride may look long at first
But once you're on it never stops
When it finally ends is the worst
And you end up missing all the fun drops
In the middle of this confusing mess
I'm glad to have found you
Those little things took away all the stress
All the beautiful things you do
We try to make it to every ride we can
But never forget to enjoy the trip there
For often it is the journey, though not part of our plan
That is the most memorable, though we are not always aware
I can see my life's not "perfect"
It never was and never will be
But it is this madness that I suspect
Makes life in it's own way special for me
We'll never know how long the ride will last
But we have to get off eventually
And when I do I pray my a**
Gets put in heaven, next to yours, affectionately
So while I'm here, I won't regret
Every smile I make, every breath I take
Because life is short, and even yet
I love every moment that I'm awake
