Unmoving on her usual spot
Folding paper airplanes
Looking nonchalant
But hiding a
Deep dark
Story
All she seems to whisper
Is “Overcome…”
Unmoving on her usual spot
Folding paper airplanes
No one
Spoke to her at all
Because
All she seemed to whisper
Was “Overcome…”
She was lonely
Needed someone
Her green watery eyes
Shined, full with pain
Her knotted
Red hair
Was everywhere
Her clothing
Shabby and torn
Still
All she seemed to whisper
Was “Overcome…”
She was sitting on her usual spot
Folding paper airplanes
Her name was Jocie
Sadly
She was beaten
Everyday
Every single day
Her father
Took advantage
But still
All she seemed to whisper
Was “Overcome…”
She sat quietly on the rug
Folding paper airplanes
With her dad
They were having
Fun
Her dad was
Intoxicated
A couple of
Hours passed
Then…
Slap. Slap. Slap
Cries. Cries. Cries
Yes. No. Yes. No
She was unmoving on her usual spot
Folding paper airplanes
All she seemed to whisper
Was “Overcome...”
One day
That day
Changed Everything
Folding a paper airplane
She said
The following
“Never again will anyone
Lay a
Single
Hand
On
Me.”
With that
Jocie jumped off
The cliff.
Crack!
Her bones
Went
She lay there
With a folded
Paper airplane
On her hand
That said
“I overcame…”
