A big tree crashing down in a forest
And not a human around to listen,
But all critters muttering in chorus
A song of freedom written without pen.
-
The crash of the tree is the thud of the drum;
Its waves pulsate with a rhythm as of a heartbeat,
Initiating a whisper of leaves conducted by the wind,
And a tender melody out the souls of the birds.
-
The song, a song extant through the ages,
Inscribed on ev’ry heart. Carrying life
In its chest, it travels to and fro by
A big tree crashing down in a forest.

This poem is written in Dorsimbra Form (Three stanzas of four lines each: 4 lines of iambic pentameter rhymed "abab"; 4 lines of free verse; 4 lines of iambic pentameter blank verse with the last line repeating the first line.)

In my music and in my life, I am constantly inspired by nature and its wondrous attributes; it reflects the perfection and omnipotence of God. Through this piece, I hope to inspire others to listen more closely to nature and to learn from it.
