I am from early mornings, as the cool mist of the morning falls down upon me, the beautiful harmony of the
birds chirping and the sun shining welcoming me to another day. I am from long strands of green grass
waving like waves in the ocean, freshly mowed, filling my nose with the smell of the raw earth.
I am from bees withdrawing nectar from wild flowers, growing gorgeously in the garden, reminding me that the
world is really beautiful.
I am church Sundays. From New Birth. The pastor standing in front of the congregation and preaching to us.
I am from football Fridays, soccer Saturdays, and more football on Sunday.
I am from big Sunday feasts, making memories with the people I love the most, sitting around eating and
chatting for what seemed like centuries, receiving love from my family.

I am from frozen winters, lying in the cold cotton like snow scarring the ground with the shape of an angel,
laughing and enjoying the cold, which became bitter when the beams of sun melted the winter
wonderland.
I am from big malls and outlets. From Lenox. My sisters and I shopping until our feet hurt.
I am from bickering with my siblings, fighting over everything, and forgiving each other afterwards.

I am from Disney cruises, Mickey Mouse greeting passengers as we board the massive boat, my mother
capturing photos of her beloved children savoring their vacation.
I am from hearing the songs of the frogs croaking through my window panes, thinking they were in the room
with me.
I am from Georgia. From hotlanta. Its extreme heat always keeping me a bit too warm.
I am from pink bedroom walls, pink carpet, and pink bed spreads.
I am from the sweet taste and soft texture of Dad’s banana bread, making my taste buds go ballistic.
I am from chewing gum and my Dad scolding me for it, “It’s not good for your braces,” he would say.
I am from reading books all the time. From the library. Its wide variety of books always kept me from being
bored.
I am from rice, sweat tea, and apple pie.
I am from fish tacos, having to not eat meat for a year, so we substituted meat for fish every evening.

I am from my father creating the masterpiece of macaroni and cheese every once in a while, savoring every fork

full of many servings.
I am from hanging out with friends at the park. From Mountain Park Park. My buddies and I taking a stroll there

almost every day.
I am from crazy uncle Mikal, wealthy GP and Nana, and lovely big sisters; Jasmine and Sakoya.
I am from procrastinating, waiting till the very last minute to do something.
I am from deer lounging in the front lawn, claiming their land, scaring the little ones.
I am from going to the grocery store every day. From Kroger. My sisters and I buying the supplies we needed for
dinner and sneaking some ice cream in with our purchase.
I am from being loved. From a love filled home. My family spoiling me with all their love.
I am from meeting new people, being shy, and becoming very close to my friends.
I am from real friends, fake friends, and friends I call my family.
I am from being young, wild, and free. My youth is like a dance, it’s lively and effervescent. It’s boisterous and
full of different steps.
