Favorite Quote:
&ldquo; The self-confidence of the warrior is not the self-confidence of the average man. The average man seeks certainty in the eyes of the onlooker and calls that self-confidence. The warrior seeks impeccability in his own eyes and calls that humbleness. The average man is hooked to his fellow men, while the warrior is hooked only to infinity.&rdquo; <br /> ―Carlos Castaneda

A raspy cackle escapes from his dark shroud like lingering smoke
Sounding hollow, like the rattling of a dead man’s bones
His empty eyes fill with a dark mirth that flutters like a raven’s wing
A reaper joking in the shadows of death

It sounds hollow, like the rattling of a dead man’s bones
His voice an echo lost in a reverberating dream
His empty eyes fill with a dark mirth that flutters like a raven’s wing
Laughter cuts through silence like the crack of a lightning bolt

His voice an echo lost in a reverberating dream
Pale hands reach out from the dark pools of the underworld
Laughter cuts through silence like the crack of a lightning bolt
Rouge lips whisper their dearest condolences off the devil’s tongue

Pale hands reach out from the dark pools of the underworld
Empty eyes fill with a dark mirth that flutters like a raven’s wing
Rouge lips whisper their dearest condolences off the devil’s tongue
A raspy cackle escapes from his dark shroud like lingering smoke

The author's comments:
this pantoum poem was done for my creative writing class in which we had to take one line from a poem by another poet and expand on it. I was inspired by Charles Bukowski's poem "Cold Summer". The line i used came from the line in his poem "I think that's nice, joking in the shadows of death"
