the page for wishing
this is the page for wishing
imagine – the corners are dog-eared by cats
this is the place where people come
to escape the ironies of life.

 dreams are like frayed flags
that you’re afraid to hang because
people will ask where you come from.

I have climbed up cold flagpoles at dawn,
 to make them fly --
 too small for patriotism
 too large to explain.

we belong to a country because we are afraid
to belong to ourselves. we cling to our friends
 throwing fireworks,
 celebrating
 our independence.
